Woman raped in her parked car. It was a ‘random’ incident, cops say

A woman was sexually battered in her parked car in Sarasota over the weekend and now investigators are looking for the man responsible.

The woman told Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office investigators she had parked her car in the 2700 block of Parma Street in Sarasota around 8 p.m. Friday.

A man - described as being between 30 and 40 years old, having long, dark brown hair, a mustache and goatee, with a mole on his face, having a medium build and wearing a gray t-shirt - got into her car and sexually battered her, according to the sheriff’s office. She reported it to officials just before 4 a.m. Saturday.

Detectives believe the incident “appears to be random” as no other similar incidents have been reported in the same area.

Anyone with information in relation to the case is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office at 941-861-4900.

The investigation is ongoing.
