The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest related to the investigation of a shooting in the 2500 block of Man of War Circle Sunday night.

Officers who responded to the scene of the shooting previously discovered a stockpile of rifles, the smell of fresh gun powder and John Slattery, 40, locked inside a closet in the master bedroom, refusing to exit. Deputies then reportedly removed Slattery, who insisted that someone was trying to enter the house through the master bathroom, from the residence.

Slattery and the other resident of the home sent to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for evaluation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Slattery was arrested Monday after police returned to the scene with a search warrant. Detectives reportedly found evidence of a gun being fired multiple times, along with methamphetamine.

According to the arrest affidavit, there was no evidence of an attempted home invasion.

Slattery faces three charges — possession of methamphetamine, shooting within an occupied dwelling and using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. Slattery posted his $45,000 bond Tuesday.
