Police officer injured in car accident, shooting in Miami Beach

A Miami Beach police officer was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center after being struck by a car.

Police say there was an officer-involved shooting and a traffic accident at 12th Street and Washington Avenue in Miami Beach. The unidentified shooting victim is still on the scene.

Roads are closed along Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue from 11th to 13th Street.

In a video posted by Twitter user @danvasmoon, a man is seen leaning on a police car while being handcuffed by two officers.

“Miami Beach officers are currently at the scene of a very active investigation,” said Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez. “We are currently investigating a shooting and traffic crash.”

Miami Beach Fire Department spokesman Jorge Linares told the Miami Herald the officer was struck at around 6:10 p.m.

“He was transported to [Jackson] with lacerations to the body and loss of consciousness. But he is stable now,” Linares said.
