Man wearing Halloween mask attempts two carjackings. One of the would-be victims gets shot, cops say
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a shooting and two attempted carjackings that it believes are connected, Bay News 9 reports.
An armed man wearing an orange Halloween mask approached a woman in the Winwood Knoll Mobile Home Park Tuesday night around 9:45 p.m. and demanded that she hand over her car keys.
The suspect fled after the woman refused and kicked him. He fired one shot toward her carport before escaping on a moped. The victim was unharmed.
Forty-five minutes later, deputies responded to an intersection about five minutes away from the previous incident where the suspect attempted to steal another car, according to the sheriff’s office.
Still wearing the orange mask, he approached a man sitting in his vehicle and fired three or four shots, with one bullet hitting the victim in the back. The suspect ran away after firing the shots and has not been apprehended, according to investigators.
The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life threatening wounds.
The sheriff’s office urges anyone with information to call 813-247-8200. Anonymous tips can also be given online at www.crimestopperstb.com.
