He sold pills from his car, and wrote illegal prescriptions. Now, this doctor is headed to prison
A Tampa doctor was sentenced to more than three years in prison for his role in illegally prescribing drugs in a pill mill operation and even selling drugs from his own car, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Anil Sahijwani, 43, of Tampa, and several unnamed co-conspirators, worked at Family Medical Express Center, Inc. in Brandon where they implemented a plan to sell prescriptions to those who did not need them and would instead sell the pills, according to the release.
He even sold prescriptions for Oxycodone out of his car in a Tampa parking lot, according to the release.
Sahijwani occasionally wrote prescriptions in the names of people he had never examined or met at the request of his co-conspirators, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Officials said he unlawfully wrote prescriptions for more than 18,000 Oxycodone pills.
Sahijwani was sentenced to 45 months (three years and nine months) in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Charlene Honeywell. He was also ordered to forfeit his Drug Enforcement Administration registration number, $182,266.66 and the value of a Porsche he owned, according to the release. He pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb. 23.
