Man says he was robbed while standing outside parent’s home

Officials are investigating a reported armed robbery Monday afternoon after a man said he felt something jammed into his back and saw a suspect running away with a gun and his money.

A man told deputies he was standing outside his parent’s mobile home in the 5900 block of 14th Street West around 1:10 p.m. Monday when he felt something “jammed” into his back, according to a news release from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

The 32-year-old man said he was told not to move as the suspect went through his pockets, taking his wallet that had $330 in cash inside, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect, described as a white man with long blond hair wearing a white tank top, blue jean shorts and standing approximately 5-feet 7-inches to 6-feet 1-inch tall, was last seen running southwest. That’s when the victim saw the suspect carrying a gun, which investigators described as a small, black semiautomatic handgun, according to the release.

A K-9 unit was called to track the suspect but was not able to locate him, according to the sheriff’s office.

Anyone with information should call the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at 941-747-3011.
