A fight over directions ended with Uber passenger in hospital

An Uber driver knocked a passenger unconscious after getting into a fight Thursday night.

The 38-year-old driver picked up a 56-year-old, around 7:30 p.m. Thursday but a fight ensued over the route the driver was taking, according to St. Petersburg police.

The driver pulled over near the Quick Pick Foods store in the 8000 block of 58th Street North and the two got into a physical altercation, according to police.

The driver punched the passenger, who did not regain consciousness and is hospitalized with serious brain trauma, according to police.

Police said the driver is cooperating with the investigation, but has not been charged at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, as officials speak with witnesses.
