Inmate found dead inside cell at Sarasota County jail

An inmate at the Sarasota County jail was found dead in his cell on Thursday night, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before midnight, 33-year-old Brandon Huskey was discovered unresponsive in his cell. Deputies contacted emergency services and CPR was performed, according to the sheriff’s office, but Huskey was pronounced dead.

A sheriff’s office release said the cause of death might have been “medical in nature,” though an official cause will be determined and released by the medical examiner’s office.

Huskey was arrested and booked into the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office at 1:47 a.m. Thursday for violation of park hours, a county ordinance. He was scheduled to be released at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

The sheriff’s office said no further updates are expected at this time.
