An infant is dead, a 2-year-old hospitalized and the father’s in jail
One child died and another was hospitalized Thursday after being stuck inside an extremely hot mobile home and their father is in custody, according to reports.
An 8-month-old boy was found unresponsive by officers in a Largo mobile home Thursday afternoon and died at the scene, according to Bay News 9. A 2-year-old girl also was in the home and was taken to All Children’s Hospital because of severe hydration.
On Thursday, Largo police were called to assist Pinellas County Child Protection Investigators with a welfare check of the children at King’s Manor Mobile Park in the 1300 block of South Belcher Road, according to Bay News 9.
An investigation has been opened into the boy’s death.
Police arrested the children’s father, William F. Hendrickson, who is facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect, according to Bay News 9.
Officials told Bay News 9 that Hendrickson has previously been warned not to leave the children in the bedroom’s hot environment.
The temperature inside the bedroom at 1 p.m. Thursday was recorded by officials at 109 degrees, Bay News 9 reported.
