Pizza Hut driver was trying to deliver a pizza when someone tried to jack his car

Detectives are investigating the attempted car jacking of a Pizza Hut driver’s vehicle that led to a shooting.

No arrests have been made, but detectives believe there were up to three suspects involved, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Bristow.

A Pizza Hut driver was making a delivery in the 1000 block of 27th Avenue West in Bradenton when a suspect brandished a semi-automatic handgun before pointing it at the driver who was in the driver’s seat, according to an incident report dated July 14.

The delivery driver floored the vehicle’s accelerator in an attempt to drive away. But as the car began to accelerate, the suspect was able to open the driver’s door and attempted to reach in.

The momentum of the car accelerating forward, however, caused the door to close. The suspect fired the gun once, hitting the inside of the car’s windshield, according to the report.

The suspect may have been accompanied by two others, a responding deputy reported.

A bullet fragment was found imbedded inside the dash board of the vehicle and detectives took over the investigation.
