Arrest made in nightclub stabbing that injured one
A man is facing charges in connection with a stabbing at a Sarasota nightclub last week.
Andreas L. Montilla-Monsalve, 24, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a parking lot in the 5100 block of Ocean Boulevard near The Beach Club Bar around 2:19 a.m. Thursday after reports of a fight between two men that possibly involved a gun, according to the sheriff’s office.
The argument started earlier that evening after two men spilled the 28-year-old victim’s drink. When the bar closed, the victim was confronted by Montilla-Monsalve in the parking lot. Montilla-Monsalve hit the man in the face and stabbed him in the lower left side of his back, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The man required surgery and staples to treat the stab wound, according to the affidavit.
The man drove himself to the hospital, where he was treated. In a photo lineup, the man identified Montilla-Monsalve as his attacker, according to the sheriff’s office.
Video surveillance from the nightclub corroborated the 911 calls with the time of the stabbing and identified Montilla-Monsalve as the aggressor during the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
Montilla-Monsalve remained in jail Monday on a $75,000 bond.
