Child porn suspect had more than 22,000 illegal files on his computer, cops say

A Manatee County man is facing charges after officials say they found thousands of files containing child porn on his computer, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

John G. Cook, 48, was charged with sexual performance by a child and transmission of child pornography after a search warrant served on his south Manatee County home Monday found 22,000 files containing child pornography on one device, according to the sheriff’s office.

A computer at his address in the 500 block of Whitfield Avenue was seen advertising a large amount of suspected child porn, according to the sheriff’s office.

The search was part of an internet investigation started on April 30 to find computers in Manatee County that were offering to distribute files with child porn, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is ongoing.
