New Lakewood Ranch shopping center proposed for State Road 70 at Lorraine Road
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Lakewood Ranch residents could soon have a few more shopping options.
An 82,600-square-foot shopping center is planned for the northeast corner of the intersection of State Road 70 and Lorraine Road.
The Manatee County Planning Commission recommended approval for the preliminary site plan and rezone of the 16.94 acres to planned development commercial/watershed protection/special treatment overlay districts during Thursday's meeting. The request will now go to the Manatee County Commission for approval at its Dec. 3 land use meeting.
Since the item was approved on a consent agenda, there was no discussion.
According to plans submitted by Schroeder Manatee Ranch Inc., a 52,600-square-foot main store is planned for the north-central portion of the site. Four outparcels totaling 30,000 square feet are also planned for the site with three built along Lorraine Road and one along State Road 70.
"Growth is occurring from west to east consistent with availability of services," according to the county staff report. "Timing appears to be consistent with development trends in the area. The proposed development will provide more retail and commercial services to a rapidly growing area of the county."

Recommended denial of a preliminary site plan to add 8,525 square feet to an existing self-storage miniwarehouse facility on the north side of University Parkway. Amsdell Storage Ventures XXII LLC requested the addition of 33 units in two one-story buildings at the existing facility bounded by Florida Street to the east and Georgia Street to the west. By 3-3 vote, the motion to recommend approval failed.
Bill Conerly, planning commission chairman, was resworn in as a planning commission member. Conerly's term had expired.
