Boo Fest At Lakewood Ranch Gets Jump On Halloween
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- A cast of thousands of men and women, boys and girls, and babies came Friday night to the ninth annual Boo Fest.
Just how many thousands will never be known. Enough to run out of candy halfway through the three-hour event. And still they came, headlights backed up a half mile and more into the night, just like the famous scene in the movie "Field of Dreams."
Boo Fest was not just for Lakewood Ranch. Many came from Sarasota and Bradenton as well.
"We just moved to Sarasota in July. It's nice that they do this for families," said Nicolette Saint Cyr, accompanied by her two young children.
Boo Fest had been moved from Lakewood Ranch Main Street to Premier Sports Campus for the first time.
"They had to move it. Look how many people are here. It would not have fit on Main Street anymore," said Deborah Decker, a Halloween enthusiasts.
Kyanne Merrill, director of LWR community activities, said she was pleased with the successful transition to the new location.
"We weren't sure what the outcome would be. Everyone seems to be having a good time. Parking is a little backed up, but everybody seems to be dressed in costume and festive. We're happy to have everyone," Merrill said.
Heather Jones was another who liked the expanse of Premier Sports Campus.
"I like this setup better. There is more space and no stress with the parking," Jones said.
