2 Lakewood Ranch teens killed in one-car crash

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Three motorists are dead after two separate crashes into trees in Manatee County within seven hours, according to official reports.

Two Lakewood Ranch teenagers were killed after crashing into a tree at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Brendan Shreve, 17, and Jared Duran, 15, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

Shreve, who was driving a 2012 Mercedes-Benz C350, was southbound on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard north of Clubhouse Drive when he failed to negotiate a right curve, struck the raised center median curb and struck a tree in the median, accord

ing to a news release.

The rear section of the vehicle separated from the main body at impact. The front section traveled into the northbound lanes of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. The rear section traveled into the southbound lanes of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, FHP said.

The investigation is ongoing, however, speed is a possible factor in the crash, according to FHP.

Test results are pending whether alcohol was a factor, FHP reported.

Roughly seven hours earlier, a 25-year-old Wimauma man was killed in an accident at the intersection of Buckeye Road and U.S. 301 at 10:15 p.m. Friday, according to the Florida Highway State Patrol.

Ismael Villareal was driving a 2012 Dodge Journey eastbound on Buckeye Road. The vehicle ran the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 301, crossed the shoulder of the highway and collided with a tree, according to FHP.

Villareal was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:40 p.m. by emergency responders. According to the FHP report, alcohol did not play a factor in the accident.
