Manatee property appraiser mails TRIM notices to property owners
With Truth in Millage notices mailed this week, Manatee County property owners will have until Sept. 9 to appeal their property values.
Property owners can appeal their property values to the Value Adjustment Board in the clerk’s office until 4:30 p.m. Sept. 9.
The final roll is not done until October, said Mark Johns, director of appraisal services at the Manatee County Property Appraiser’s Office. In November, the tax collector will mail out tax bills.
“They are always a little different because we are making adjustments,” he said. “If they have any questions, please call our office.”
The Property Appraiser’s Office can be reached at 941-748-8208.
Manatee County property values are rising by about 8.3 percent, to almost $30.6 billion, as of July 1, according to the Property Appraiser’s Office.
While Manatee County commissioners voted to not increase the millage rate, some property owners will pay more in taxes due to the increase in property values. The county millage rate is 7.0435, which includes 0.6109 mills for the unincorporated municipal services tax.
Commissioners will not formally adopt the millage rate until Sept. 15, when the final budget is approved. The commission has the first public hearing at 6 p.m. Sept. 8.
Homeowners without homestead exemptions could see a larger increase to their taxable values, according to Johns.
With a homestead exemption, assessed value cannot increase by more than 0.07 percent, Johns said.
“Those people are seeing very little change in your taxes if you had homestead exemption prior,” he said.
