Woman seriously injured while trying to change flat tire when another vehicle crashes into her car

A 24-year-old Punta Gorda woman was seriously injured while trying to change a flat tire when another vehicle crashed into her car, throwing her into the median on Interstate 275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At 5:02 a.m. Saturday, the woman was changing a flat tire on a 2010 Nissan Versa that was not completely out of the left southbound lane of I-275, just north of Holly Road, according to a news release. A 29-year-old Largo man driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was heading south in the left lane of I-275 and did not see the Versa, instead crashing into the back of it.

The Versa was pushed into the woman, throwing her into the median to the east of the interstate. The Silverado then spun around before flipping over multiple times.

The woman was cited for the crash for having a disabled vehicle obstructing traffic. She was taken to Bayfront Health Center to be treated for serious injuries.
