Transition home opening reset for Aug. 1

Beauty for Ashes, the new transition home for women coming out of jail, is set to open Aug. 1.

Debbi Hanna, the owner, said she wanted to open her doors at the City Life Church location, 1300 17th Ave. W., on July 17, but ran into logistical issues with getting the house ready in time and having the house lead ready to stay at the house.

She said she’s been amazed by the community response during her time in need. A manager with Bealls, she said, called her and offered to donate a range of household items, like sheets and silverwear.

Hanna has volunteered at the Manatee County jail for nearly nine years and has wanted to open a transition house for women for six of those years. She’s ready to complete her master’s degree in addiction counseling from Liberty University.
