A Punta Gorda woman was critically injured after she drove the wrong way into a semi-truck in Myakka City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At 5:49 p.m. Monday, a 21-year-old Punta Gorda woman was heading east in a 2013 Kia Forte just west of the intersection of Kersey Road in Myakka City when she traveled into the wrong lane and crashed into the front of a 2006 Volvo VNL semi-truck, according to a news release.

After the impact, the Kia came to rest in the eastbound lanes facing south. The semi-truck went in a southeasterly direction off the road into a ditch and came to rest facing east.
