1 dead in crash in Parrish
A North Carolina man died when the SUV he was driving crashed and rolled over at 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash in the 15200 block of U.S. 301 was reported to FHP at 6:15 a.m. FHP believes it may have occurred about four hours earlier, according to a report.
“The caller was a passerby who reported that the vehicle was on its side,” Trooper Kenn Watson said.
Paramedics at 6:25 a.m. confirmed the driver of the 2005 Honda Pilot was dead, he said.
There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.
The identity of the driver, who is from Charlotte, N.C., has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators say the Honda Pilot was northbound on U.S. 301, south of Gettis Lee Road, when it drove off the road, hit a culvert and the impact caused the SUV to go airborne and overturn.
The driver, who wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, was partially ejected from the Pilot as a result.
