One person dead in crash on Interstate 75 in Palmetto
One person was reported dead in a crash at 9:12 a.m. Friday on an Interstate 75 offramp in Palmetto.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the crash at the I-75 exit to Moccasin Wallow Road.
Dan Berner, 59, of Lakeland, was confirmed dead at the scene, according to a news release. The other driver, Daniel Love, 72, was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way from a stop sign.
All roads reopened after the northbound exit ramp from I-75 to Moccasin Wallow Road and the right eastbound lane on Moccasin Wallow Road were closed two hours after the wreck.
Love of Palmetto, was stopped in his 2009 Toyota Prius at the stop sign on the exit ramp from northbound I-75 to Moccasin Wallow Road and Berner was heading east on a 2002 Honda MC motorcycle on Moccasin Wallow Road in the left approaching the exit ramp, according to the report.
Love turned left onto Moccasin Wallow Road failing to see Berner and crossing into the motorcycle’s direct path. The front of the motorcycle crashed into the left side of the Prius, the report states.
Love sustained minor injuries in the crash, according to the report.
