BRADENTON -- In March, the Bradenton City Council took action on an item not on the agenda in approving negotiations to go forward with home builder Taylor Morrison for more than 200 acres to the west of Bill Evers Reservoir.

Officials will get their first look at a purchase agreement at their Wednesday meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the city hall chambers.

Taylor Morrison is offering $12 million for the land in East Manatee, where it plans to build 500 units in an "active adult" gated community with amenities such as walking trails and an on-site activities director. Taylor Morrison beat out the only offer in the second round of bidding, which came from Neal Communities, which offered $12.5 million, but only $6 million at closing.

The city's public works department will deliver a proposal to borrow $6.4 million on the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's state revolving fund, a low-interest loan designed to help municipalities make needed improvements to wastewater facilities. Public works has six projects in all, with all but one set for 2017.

The Florida Department of Transportation will present its Eighth Avenue West pedestrian safety improvement project to city officials. FDOT is in the design phase for medians on Eighth Avenue West between 14th Street West and Ninth Street West in downtown Bradenton. Dedicated turn lanes at most of the intersections also are planned. FDOT is planning a public hearing for the project in July.
