MTC hosting job fair for Manatee
EAST MANATEE -- Manatee Technical College, 6305 State Road 70 E., is hosting a job fair for Manatee County Government, 1:30 -- 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Positions available range from entry level to management.
Applicants will have the opportunity to meet hiring managers and representatives from various departments, including Manatee County EMS and the 12th Judicial Court.

East Manatee Republican Club to host candidates
EAST MANATEE -- Angel Colonnesso, candidate for re-election as Manatee County clerk, and Dave Miner, candidate for re-election to the Manatee County School Board, will be guest speakers at the East Manatee Republican Club meeting 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Peridia Golf and Country Club, 4950 Peridia Blvd. E.
All candidates who attend are welcome to speak, according to a club press release.

Musical tribute planned at church for Memorial Day
SARASOTA -- The 10th annual Jacobite/First Brass Memorial Day Tribute with vocalist Sharon Scott, the Kiltie Highland Dancers, 16 brass musicians and bagpipes is set for 3 p.m. May 29 at St. James United Methodist Church. 2049 Honore Ave.
This year's show will honor Vietnam veterans. Gen. James Hesson, coordinator for the Vietnam War 50th Commemoration, and Ted Smith, president of the Sarasota County Veterans Commission, will present inspirational readings and will present pins to all in attendance, who served during the Vietnam War era.
Old cell phones will be collected for the "Cell Phones for Soldiers" non-profit organization. These phones (no matter their condition) will be converted to calling minutes for military personnel.
The Military Officers Association of Sarasota will be there to pass out boxes for Operation Support Our Troops. The organization has been doing this since 2003 and can account for more than 20,000 boxes sent to Iraq and Afghanistan from the Sarasota area.
The boxes can be filled with recommended items and taken to the post office to be delivered to the troops, free of charge.
