MANATEE -- Thursday marks the annual National Day of Prayer across the United States and Manatee County.

Celebrations include:

Palmetto Historical Park, 515, 10th Ave. W., 9-9:45 a.m. For more information, contact Pastor Jason Lane at pastorjason@skywaycc.org or 941-723-1790.

Bradenton Christian School will celebrate the day with a school-wide prayer event on the Panther football field beginning at 8:55 a.m. The celebration's theme is "Isaiah 58:1a, Shout it loud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet."

Manatee County and Bradenton celebrations will be held at the Manatee County Courthouse beginning at 11:45 a.m.

The National Day of Prayer was first created by a joint resolution passed in the U.S. Congress in 1952 and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The event stands as a call to come humbly before God seeking guidance for leaders and citizens alike.

According to NationalDayofPrayer.org, "The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history ... The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans. It is a day that transcends the differences, bringing together citizens from all backgrounds."
