13 Manatee, Sarasota law officers honored Friday

SARASOTA -- Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key,, will honor 13 winners of the fifth annual 16th Congressional District Law Enforcement Awards in a special ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday at the Sarasota County Building, 1660 Ringling Blvd.

The congressman established the award to give special recognition to law enforcement officers, departments, and units for exceptional achievement.

Award winners were chosen by an independent panel comprised of current and retired law enforcement personnel representing a cross-section of the district's law enforcement community.

SCF Spring Fling concert celebrates semester end

BRADENTON -- State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, will celebrate an end of the semester with the musical performance, "With a Little Help From My Friends," at 7 p.m. April 28 at the Performance Pavilion at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

All SCF music ensembles will perform at the concert, which features songs about friendship. It will be a farewell concert for Marc Mannino and Charles Turon, two long-time SCF faculty members, as they retire from SCF.

Guests are invited to bring blankets and chairs. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Tickets are $8 for adults and seniors and $4 for SCF staff and Florida students.
