Supper with Sheriff set Thursday at PAL tables

MANATEE -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Brad Steube invite the public to Supper With the Sheriff at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Police Athletic League cafeteria, 202 13th Ave. E., Bradenton.

Citizens can discuss issues with the sheriff and staff members.

Dinner costs $3. Dress is casual. No RSVP necessary.

SCF places in State Mathematics Olympics

BRADENTON -- State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, math team placed fourth April 9 in the state Mathematics Olympics at the University of North Florida.

The math team from SCF Venice was made up of students David Burrell, Jimmy Cox, Zachary Mullaghy and Gina Panik, with alternates Stephenie Krum and Caio Richmond. Catherine Panik and Mary Beth Headlee were the team coaches.

The competition, sponsored by the University of North Florida Math-Statistics Department and the Florida Two-Year College Mathematics Association, includes individual and team awards. To win a team award, individual test scores are calculated and weighed equally with the team score.
