Free teen safe driving course at motor park
EAST MANATEE -- A no-cost, hands-on instructional teen driving program is set for 8 a.m. - noon or 1-5 p.m.. May 21-22 at Bradenton Motorsports Park, 21000 State Road 64 E.
At least one parent must attend with their teen. A $99 refundable deposit is required.
Five hands-on driving courses include skid recovery, drop wheel recovery, panic stop, accident avoidance/slalom, and distraction.
Students must be 15-19 and have a valid permit/driver licenses, and 40 hours of behind-the-wheel driving time. For questions or to register: putonthebrakes.org.
Arbor Day tree plantings planned for April 29
MANATEE COUNTY -- Citizens are invited to tree plantings planned for National Arbor Day on April 29. The plantings events will recognize the value of trees to the 165 communities from Florida and thousands nationwide that are a Tree City/County USA.
Locally, Tree City USAs include Anna Maria, Bradenton, Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach, Palmetto, and Manatee County as a Tree County USA. To become a Tree City/County USA, governments meet the following four requirements set by the National Arbor Day Foundation: a community must have a tree care ordinance, a legal tree governing body, a comprehensive urban forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.
Manatee teen court registration underway
PALMETTO -- Manatee County Teen Court/Teen Court Too volunteer attorney training is set for 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. April 30 at Palmetto Historical Park, 515 10th Avenue West, Palmetto.
The training is free and open to students ages 12-17.
Sponsor is Angelina "Angel" Colonneso, Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court.
Reservation deadline: April 27.
