Global orchid explorer to lecture in Bradenton
MANATEE -- Stig Dalstrom, who discovered several new orchid species recently during explorations in Peru, will speak before The Manatee Orchid Society at 7 p.m. April 12 at the Manatee River Garden Club, 3120 First Ave. W. in Bradenton.
Dalstrom has degrees in civil engineering and horticulture, is a self-taught watercolor artist, botanical illustrator and experienced orchid taxonomist. Born and raised in Sweden, he now resides in Sarasota.
He is the former curator of the Orchid Identification Center of the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
He is also a research associate of Lankester Botanical Garden, University of Costa Rica, and of the National Biodiversity Centre in Serbithang, Thimphu, Bhutan.
His fine art can be seen in public and private collections in Europe, South America, Asia and the United States.
The public is welcome to attend.
SCF Workforce Solutions offers export basics workshop
BRADENTON -- State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Workforce Solutions, in partnership with the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corp., Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County, Enterprise Florida, SBDC Florida and the U.S. Commercial Service -- will present export basics from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. E.
The workshop is for companies launching or expanding the export of goods or services from Florida. Participants will learn how to start selling to markets thought to be inaccessible.
The $49 cost includes lunch. Reservations required. Participants must bring a laptop or electronic device.
