Bradenton pedestrian dead following accident on U.S. 41
MANATEE -- A 60-year-old man improperly crossing U.S. 41 Thursday night was struck by a car and died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Early Saturday, FHP identified the victim as David W. Smith of Bradenton.
A Jeep Wrangler was traveling southbound on U.S. 41 just south of the intersection with 60th Avenue West at 8:35 p.m., according to a release.
Smith walked into U.S. 41 from the west shoulder of the road and was struck by the front of the Jeep, troopers said.
He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
The 40-year-old driver of the Jeep is not facing charges at this time. He and the one passenger in the vehicle were not injured.
