Alex Onishenko promoted to East Manatee fire marshal

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- East Manatee Fire Chief Byron Teates promoted deputy fire marshal Alex Onishenko to fire marshal Monday.

Onishenko began his service with the East Manatee Fire Rescue District last year upon retiring from the New Port Richey Fire Department after a 26-year-career, the last seven as fire chief.

Onishenko succeeds George Ellington, who retired in 2015.

45th Street East extension to close for utility work

EAST MANATEE -- Water main improvements associated with the 44th Avenue East extension will close 45th Street East at 44th Avenue East on March 23.

Ken LaBarr, interim infrastructure inspection division manager for Manatee County, announced the planned closing Wednesday, March 15.
