MANATEE -- Senate candidate Carlos Beruff will speak at the Manatee GOP's annual Lincoln Day dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Polo Grill in Lakewood Ranch.

Monica Crowley, a political commentator for Fox News and a columnnist and editor for the Washington Times, is the keynote speaker for the annual fundraising dinner.

The dinner is $125 per person.

Beruff is the owner of developer Medallion Home in Manatee County. He is marketing himself as the outsider candidate for the Senate with business experience a la presidential candidate Donald Trump.

A poll conducted by the Washington Post and Univision asked likely Republican voters who they would vote for if the Senate primary race were today and the candidates were Beruff, Ron DeSantis, David Jolly, Carlos Lopez-Cantera and Todd Wilcox. "Don't know" led the field at 74 percent. The next highest percentage was 6 percent. Beruff got less than 1 percent.

Vietnam vets set for 50th anniversary at Patriot Plaza

SARASOTA -- A commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War will be held at Patriot Plaza, Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, at 5 p.m. March 29.

The commemoration is sponsored by the Sarasota National Cemetery and the Sarasota County Veterans Commission and will recognize all who served in the uniformed services from Nov. 1, 1955, through May 15, 1975, irrespective of whether they physically served in Vietnam.

During the March 29 program, all Vietnam-era veterans who have not previously been presented with a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin, will be so recognized as part of the ceremonies. All Vietnam era veterans, their families, and all who wish to thank those who served during that period are invited to attend.

SMART names Jorgensen its new executive director

MANATEE -- Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy has named Jody Jorgensen its new executive director.

Jorgensen is the former executive director of InStride Therapy in Nokomis. She studied art and fashion in New York and has a varied background in marketing, sales, grant writing and nonprofit management. She also served as the development director assistant for Mote Marine Laboratory and was the manager of the Sarasota Chalk Festival. Jorgensen is an active community volunteer who loves horses and enjoys the outdoors.

"I am very excited to be a part of SMART's future," said Jorgensen.

Adding new fundraisers and improving awareness will be among her first priorities, as will a capital campaign to raise funds for a covered riding arena.

Ranch Eggstravaganza for youth set for March 26

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The annual Eggstravaganza for all 2 to 13 years olds at Greenbrook Adventure Park is set for 9:30-11:30 a.m. March 26.

Planned: music, pony rides, balloon art, fire truck and face painting.

Cost: $5 for adults, $3 for children, and under two admitted free.

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Anyone who attends Music on Main from 6-9 p.m. April 1 is invited to wear blue, whether a tie, scarf, shirt, or other, to honor those with autism.

Anyone who wears blue can visit the LWR Information Center booth to enter a drawing to win gift cards and prizes. The main street merchants are also participating by decorating their business and windows with blue. Blue balloons, beads, bracelets, and candies will be distributed.

The charity benefiting from beer and drink sales at the monthly Lakewood Ranch Main Street concert is Easter Seals of Southwest Florida.

The band will be The Distractions, playing up-tempo contemporary music.
