CROP Hunger Walk across Green Bridge set for Sunday
MANATEE -- Hundreds of Manatee County residents, visitors and friends will be striding across the Green Bridge from Palmetto to Bradenton and back in the annual CROP Hunger Walk Sunday, Feb. 28.
Our Daily Bread is the beneficiary. Last year's walk attracted about 300 participants and raised $6,430 for Our Daily Bread.
The walk begins at 2 p.m. Walkers will receive commemorative T-shirts with sponsor acknowledgments. To obtain forms for soliciting sponsors, contact John Bregger at 941-708-3051 or lolandjohn@tampabay.rr.com.
Planned Parenthood CEO to speak at Manatee event

World War II warbirds headed to SRQ, March 2-6
MANATEE -- The Commemorative Air Force's iconic Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, FIFI, accompanied by a variety of other World War II aircraft will be at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport March 2-6.
Also featured will be the Red Tail Squadron, America's tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen, with its Rise Above Traveling Exhibit mobile theater and World War II P-51C Mustang aircraft.
The aircraft will be based at the Rectrix Aerodrome Center, 8250 15th St. E. Learn more at airpowersquadron.org.
Manatee spring farm tour has seats available
MANATEE -- The spring farm tour hosted by the Manatee River Soil and Water Conservation District has limited seats remaining on the March 11 tour.
The annual farm tour has several planned stops including Sweetgrass Farms (hydroponic produce), Char-O-Lot Ranch (Appaloosa horse breeding and training), University of Florida IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center (research on a variety of subjects from plant breeding to developing new treatments to control weeds), and Mariposa Nursery (palms, woody ornamentals, ferns, and ornamental grasses).
The cost for the day is $40 per person. Cost includes charter bus transportation, a snack and lunch. Reservations are a must. 2 top Democrats to speak at annual Sarasota fundraiser
SARASOTA -- Two leading Democrats on the national stage are coming to Sarasota Sunday to speak at the Sarasota County Democratic Party's Kennedy-King dinner and fundraiser.
Julián Castro, the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and Texas native, will be the keynote speaker with introductory remarks by Democratic Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland.
