Injunuity to present free concert at DeSoto Park
BRADENTON -- De Soto National Memorial is celebrating the National Park Service Centennial with a free concert on the lawn featuring Injunuity, and a premiere screening of the film, "First Encounter," at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27. Injunuity is an all Native American flute-based orchestral rock band formed in 2007 with award-winning Choctaw composer Brad Clonch alongside Chickasaw composer Jeff Carpenter.
"First Encounter," winner of best short film or documentary from the American Indian Film Institute, is a collaborative project between the Chickasaw Nation and De Soto National Memorial's based upon the Chickasaw's harrowing first encounter with Europeans -- a turning point in the conquistador Hernando de Soto's expedition. Scenes were shot at De Soto National Memorial featuring local re-enactors and staff.
Concessions provided by Fratello's Chicago Pizzeria with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Friends of De Soto National Memorial.

Doggies for Duchenne 5K set at Lakewood Ranch
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The inaugural Doggies for Duchenne 5K Run, Jog, Walk is set for Feb. 27 at 5261 Paylor Lane. Dogs on a short leash are welcome.
The chip-timed race begins at 7 a.m., with the event concluding at 10 a.m.

Manatee Technical College car and bike show planned
MANATEE -- The Automotive Service Technology and Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing programs at Manatee Technical College will host MTC's Fourth Annual Car and Bike Show 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, AT 6305 State Road 70 E.
The proceeds from the event will help send MTC's automotive students to SkillsUSA events at the State and National SkillsUSA Championships. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.
