BRADENTON -- Registration is underway for the third-annual St. Vincent de Paul Walk For The Poor, a fundraiser to help those in need in Manatee County.
The walk will begin at 9 a.m. March 12 at the Bradenton Riverwalk with registration 8 a.m. at Tower Plaza.
It is a joint effort organized by the SVDP conferences at St. Joseph and Sts. Peter and Paul the Apostles Churches in Bradenton.
The event raises funds to help provide food, clothing, home furnishings, household goods and financial assistance to families and persons with emergencies in their lives.
Last year, the conferences were able to assist more than 2,800 people with a total of $178,682 in financial aid.

Doggies for Duchenne 5K set for Lakewood Ranch
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The inaugural Doggies for Duchenne 5K Run, Jog, Walk will be held at 5261 Paylor Lane, Lakewood Ranch. Dogs on a short leash are welcome.
The chip-timed race begins at 7 a.m. Feb. 27, with the event concluding at 10 a.m.
Doggies for Duchenne will share 100 percent with the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch and Another Day for Gray. To register, visit runsignup.com/Race/fl/sarasota/doggies4Duchenne.
Firefighter benefit shoot set at Ancient Oak Gun Club
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- A 100 sporting clay competition in support of the East Manatee Firefighters Benevolent Association is planned at Ancient Oak Gun Club, 16800 State Road 64 East. Registration begins at 8 a.m. March 5, and shooting starts at 9 a.m. Lunch and a raffle/auction follow.
Partial proceeds will benefit retired fire Lt. Wayne Parker. Register emfba.org.
