Senate candidate Patrick Murphy headlines Manatee Dems April 1 dinner

MANATEE -- U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., will headline the Manatee Democrats annual dinner on April 1.

The dinner will be at the Polo Grill in Lakewood Ranch and will begin with a "social hour" at 6 p.m. before the dinner begins at 7 p.m.

Harvest UMC offers drive-thru Ash Wednesday

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Harvest United Methodist Church will offer drive-thru coffee, Ash Wednesday prayer and ashes from 7-9 a.m. at 14305 Covenant Way in Lakewood Ranch and 5512 26th St. W., Bradenton.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Christian holy season of Lent, a time for reflection and repentance in preparation for the celebration of Easter. For centuries, Christians have received a cross of ashes on the forehead at the beginning of Lent as a reminder of mortal failings and an invitation to receive God's forgiveness.

Harvest will also offer a 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday service at Lakewood Ranch campus.

Other Ash Wednesday services include:

Family of God Church, 5601 16th Av. E., Palmetto, 6 p.m. Ash Wednesday service and communion.
