Free Market Warrior to speak in Bradenton
BRADENTON -- Loren Spivack, "The Free Market Warrior," will be guest speaker for Manatee Forum when it meets 6 p.m. Jan. 26 at Renaissance on 9th, 1816 Ninth St. W.
Spivack founded Free Market Warrior in 2009 in an effort to make a positive difference in American politics and economics. He has devoted his time to teaching conservative groups about free market economics.
The social will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the speaker at 6:30 p.m. Cost: $22.

LWR youth fishing seminar, tourney set for Feb. 6
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- A learn-to-fish seminar for Lakewood Ranch youth, age 5 to 15, is set for Feb. 6 at the Summerfield Park Pavilion. Participants should sign up for either 10-11 a.m. or 2-3 p.m. at http://fs4.formsite.com/lbasilone/form28/index.html.
Experienced anglers from the Lakewood Ranch Anglers Club will teach children techniques that will help them catch fish. Participants who complete the seminar will receive a rod and reel to keep, compliments of Fish Florida. Quantities are limited to the first 125 children to register.
The seminar be followed 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 27 with the 10th Annual Youth Fishing Tournament at Lake Uihlein, behind Lakewood Ranch Town Hall.
DAR holding genealogy workshop on Jan. 30
EAST MANATEE -- Genealogy experts from the Manatee Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will host a workshop from 9:30 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30, at the Braden River Library, 4915 53rd Ave. E. Anyone with a patriot ancestor or who has ever thought about joining the Daughters of the American Revolution should attend. Cost is $10. Registration deadline is Jan. 23.
