Two persons reported killed, four injured in Duette by tornado

MANATEE -- Two persons were killed early Sunday morning in the Duette area when a severe storm hit the area, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

At approximately 4 a.m. deputies responded to storm damage in several locations in Manatee County including a residence (mobile home) on Albritton Road. in the northeastern part of the county. Deputies believe there were three adults and four juveniles inside the residence. Two adults, one female and one male were killed while the four juveniles have been hospitalized, the sheriff's office reports.

Further information, including the names of the victims, will be released later.

A line of severe storms spawned tornadoes in Sarasota, Manatee and Polk Counties early Sunday morning, BayNews 9 reported.

About 30 minutes earlier, a tornado estimated at about 70 mph knocked down numerous trees and signs damaged buildings near Highway 41 and Clark Road. Condominiums on the 6200 block of Midnight Pass on Siesta Key were reported damaged.

Tornado watches for our area have been canceled.
