Manatee deputies help raccoon stuck in food can
MANATEE -- You never know what a deputy is going to deal with on shift, and for two Manatee County deputies on Monday it was a raccoon with an appetite for ravioli.
Deputy Patrick Hagan and Deputy Brandon Rowe were on patrol in the early hours of Monday in the Manatee Oaks neighborhood in the 3200 block of 47th Avenue East, according to Dave Bristow, spokesman for the sheriff's office. They saw a raccoon struggling with an open can of Chef Boyardee stuck on its head.
"Raccoons are pretty common all over the county," Bristow said.
Hagan and Rowe approached the raccoon and helped it get the can off of its head, and the raccoon ran away after it was off. The animal was not injured, Bristow said.
