Reservation due Wednesday for Broadcasters Club meeting

MANATEE -- Mort Crim, an author and former broadcast journalist, will be the guest speaker at The Broadcasters Club of Florida luncheon Friday. The luncheon will be held at SaraBay Country Club, 7011 Willow Street, in Manatee County. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon begins promptly at noon.

Crim retired from anchoring TV newscasts at WDIV-TV in Detroit (1978 to 1997). He also anchored at WHAS-TV in Louisville, KYW-TV in Philadelphia, and WBBM-TV in Chicago.

Parking is free and convenient. You do not need to be a member of the Broadcasters Club of Florida to attend its luncheons.

Hatley Band to perform at Lakewood Ranch concert

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The Hatley Band, a group which blends Southern rock and country, will perform at the Lakewood Ranch Music on Main series 6-9 p.m. Friday. Turning Points will receive funds from alcohol sales during the concert .

Protest rally against violence set for Jan. 10

MANATEE -- A protest rally against gun violence is set for 4 p.m. Sunday at Pride Park, 1000 block of 61st Avenue East.

School superintendent to address GOP club

EAST MANATEE -- The East Manatee Republican Club will meet 11:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at at the Peridia Golf and Country Club for luncheon. Cost of the lunch is $16.

Guest speaker will be Diana Greene, superintendent of Schools in Manatee County.
