Palmetto bicycle rider in critical condition after accident in Sarasota on Saturday

SARASOTA -- A Palmetto bicycle rider was critically injured about 1:12 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 301, when he ran over a piece of cardboard debris in the bike lane, and lost control of his bike.

The bicycle rider lost control, went off the road onto the sidewalk, and overturned, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The man was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.
