Manatee County looks to fill vacancy on planning commission

MANATEE -- Manatee County is accepting applications for a vacancy on the planning commission created when Tanya Lukowiak left the board. The deadline to apply is Jan. 22. Applicants must be registered voters in Manatee County.

The planning commission is a citizens advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land use items.

No specific expertise is required, but people with experience or training in planning, engineering, environmental science and the development industry may be given additional consideration for an appointment.

The planning commission is a "citizens advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land use items," according to a press release.

This fall, 31 Manatee County residents applied to fill another vacancy on the planning commission. Bill Conerly, board chairman, was reappointed to fill that vacancy.

The seven-member advisory board meets at 9 a.m. the second Thursday of the month in the first-floor chambers of Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.

Planning commissioners are given a $60 stipend per meeting, according to the release.

Planning commissioners cannot be employed by the county or be a member of another land development-related advisory board serving unincorporated Manatee County.

Applications can be found at mymanatee.org/advisory_boards.
