Audubon bird course registration offered
MANATEE -- Registration is open for the 2016 bird identification course offered by Manatee County Audubon Society from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 18, 20, 25, 27 and 28 at Hope Lutheran Church, 4635 26 St. W., Bradenton.
Two full-day field trips begin at 7 a.m. Jan. 23 and 30. About 100 bird species will be identified on the field trips, probably including painted buntings, the signature bird of Felts Audubon Preserve, an Audubon Society property in Palmetto. Fee is $50 plus the 2014 MCAS membership fee of $20 per household.

American Legion Post 24 assisting Humane Society
BRADENTON -- Kirby Stewart Post 24 American Legion, 2000 75th St. W., along with the Honor Guard, is supporting the Humane Society of Manatee County.
A barrel is in the Post 24 entryway for dropping off items the care of cats and dogs who can be pushed to the side during the holiday season.
