Church plans party for homeless, needy Dec. 19

BRADENTON -- Faith International Christian Center with He's Alive Christian News and Views invites the homeless, the needy, and anyone needing a friend to a community Christmas party starting at 10 a.m. Dec 19 until all food and gifts are gone at The Pride Park North Pavilion at the corner of 63rd Avenue and Ninth Street East, Bradenton.

Home-cooked meals, Christmas gifts, clothing, Christmas music and an appearance by Peaches the Clown are planned.

Ukulele Holiday Jam set Saturday in Bradenton

BRADENTON -- Zen Guitars is hosting its first Ukulele Holiday Jam from noon-3 p.m. Saturday at 303 301 Blvd. W., at the north entrance of the DeSoto Square mall next to Hudson's Furniture.

This free, family friendly event features Mark "the Ukulele Man" Kerr and Anna Maria Island Radio on-air host Gary Lindblom, who will give ukulele lesssons using traditional Christmas carols and other holiday-themed songs. Musicians of all ages and experience levels welcome. Guests are invited to bring an instrument or purchase one of the more than 40 models of ukuleles in stock at a 10 percent during the event.

Two employers honored with Florida Patriot Awards

MANATEE -- The Florida Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense, announced Omar Edwards, principal at Horizons Academy, and State Attorney Ed Brodsky have been honored with Patriot Awards in recognition of extraordinary support of employees who serve in the Florida National Guard and Reserve.
