Marauders holiday toy drive set for Dec. 12

BRADENTON -- The Bradenton Marauders "Marty's Toy Drive" at Pirate City from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1701 27th St. E., Bradenton. New, unwrapped toys will be collected and donated to The Salvation Army for distribution to children in need in Manatee County.

Donors can enjoy a complimentary breakfast in the Pirate City Dining Hall, receive a Pirates or Marauders promo item and free entry into an exclusive raffle for a Pirates Spring Training Prize Pack, which includes four tickets to a spring training game at McKechnie Field and a ball autographed by Pirates All-Star Andrew McCutchen.

The Salvation Army's "Adopt a Family" program will help provide gifts for nearly 2,000 needy children in Manatee County. Gifts have been pledged for more than 1,100 children already this year.

The toy drive is named for Marauders' mascot, Marty, who will play Marty Claus at the event. The Marauders will offer complimentary photos with Marty Claus to children at the event.

Zachary Mikluscak named Bradenton's top officer

BRADENTON -- Zachary Mikluscak was named the Bradenton Police Department Officer of the Month for December.

Sgt. Joseph Kelly said Mikluscak has consistently distinguished himself over the past year by leading Zone 5 in self-initiated activity to include 116 arrests and issuing more than 100 traffic citations.

Following a recent homicide in the 700 block of 12th Avenue West, Mikluscak and officers volunteered to work during off-duty time to help reduce crime in the area. Mikluscak's proactive patrolling led to the arrest of multiple subjects for various crimes and prevented more violence from occurring, according to a press release.

Mikluscak has been with the Bradenton Police Department for three years.

Free Pearl Harbor Memorial Dinner planned Monday

SARASOTA -- The Law Place law firm of Sarasota has partnered with Goodwill Manasota for the first Pearl Harbor Memorial Dinner from 4-7 p.m. Monday at 2445 Fruitville Road.

The free program will include an invocation by Pastor David Stone of the First Brethren Church, presentation of colors by the Vietnam Brotherhood, and dinner catered by Webber's Hot Dogs.

Jazz Trio program planned for Munchtime on Dec. 16

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Concert Association's free Munchtime Musicales series continues its 2015-16 season with a The Jazz Trio, featuring pianist and composer Tommy Goodman, bassist Dominic Mancini and drummer Johnny Moore, at noon Dec. 16 in David Cohen Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

The free concert is open to the public.
