Department of Defense media director to speak in Manatee

MANATEE -- Ray Shepherd, director of defense media activity, U.S. Department of Defense, will speak at the next Broadcasters Club of Florida luncheon at Sara Bay Country Club at noon Friday, Dec. 11. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Shepard's responsibility includes management of Armed Forces Radio & Television, one of the world's largest broadcast networks that extend to 175 nations using international satellites to provide nine channels of television, 12 satellite radio services and 10 streaming radio services. There are ongoing tests involving streaming of all Armed Forces Network services to those in remote locations. Current audience is 400,000.

Lunch costs $20 per members, $25 for non-members.
