Children's Guardian Fund to honor child advocates
SARASOTA -- Maj. Connie Shingledecker, a long-time leader on child safety, will discuss the removal of children from their biological families at the Children's Guardian Fund's 17th Annual Fall Luncheon starting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday At Michael's on East.
The program will begin at noon.
More than 1,000 children are in foster and state care in the 12th Judicial Circuit, which includes Manatee and Sarasota counties. Shingledecker personally reviews each child removal case in Manatee County, of which there are more than 500 for 2015 already.
Carol and Morton Siegler will receive CGF's "Child Advocacy" award for their commitment to children in foster and state care.
18th Bradenton Runners Club Turkey Trot scheduled
BRADENTON -- The 18th Annual Bradenton Runners Club Turkey Trot will be held in Bradenton starting at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26.
More than 800 runners are expected this year. The race has never charged a registration fee. Participants are asked to give to The Food Bank of Manatee County and Turning Points through donations via the event registration page or race day (cash or canned goods).
The 5-mile course will follow the same route as last year with the start and finish at the end of 75th Street at the gate to the DeSoto National Memorial. Runners and walkers welcome.
Registration required online at bradentonrunnersclub.com or onsite race day starting at 6:45 a.m. The starting gun goes off at 8 a.m.
