Muggy Bradenton-Sarasota fall won't cool off anytime soon
MANATEE -- The muggy weather enveloping the Sarasota-Bradenton area won't cool off anytime soon, according to the National Weather Service.
"We're looking at another cold front getting down into the northern corner of the Florida peninsula. ... but it probably will not get into Sarasota-Bradenton by Sunday night," said NWS meteorologist Tyler Fleming. "The first real cooldown is going to feel dry but it's not going to happen by the middle of next week. Past that, it's hard to say."
According to Fleming, Wednesday's high temperature was 89 degrees in Manatee County, just one degree short of the record temperature of 90 in 1992.
"They were very close," Fleming said.
For Thursday, Fleming forecasts a high temperature of 90 degrees, also one degree short of the record temperature of 91 in 1959.
"Friday, we're forecasting 89 and the record is 92," Fleming said, set in 1972. "Saturday, we're forecasting 86. It should be a little cooler and the record there is 90 degrees."
The record high temperature for Nov. 7 was set in 1996, according to the meteorologist.
"Usually by this time of year we're already cooler," Fleming said. "It's been warmer than it normally is."
According to Bay News 9, Tampa hit 92 degrees Wednesday, which broke the record high of 90 set in 1961.
Fleming said Fort Myers also broke a record Wednesday with 92 degrees -- 3 degrees hotter than its 1992 record of 89 degrees.
BayNews 9 chief meterologist Mike Clay reported record-high temperatures could be set Thursday as well.
