Sarasota County Bar Association honors three at annual awards ceremony
SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Bar Association recently honored one of its own members, a magistrate, and an emeritus attorney for their enduring service and commitment to the profession.
Attorney Todd D. Kaplan, Magistrate Deborah Bailey, and emeritus attorney, David E. Morrill were honored Sept. 30 at the association's Annual Awards Ceremony and Installation Dinner at Laurel Oak Country Club, 2700 Gary Player Blvd., Sarasota.
Chief Judge Charles E. Williams of the 12th Judicial Circuit served as the keynote speaker.
According to a release, Kaplan received the Distinguished Community Service Award in recognition of his dedication to empowering children with disabilities in Sarasota and Manatee counties to experience the joys and thrills of "American's favorite pastime" by providing legal services and assistance to the Miracle League of Manasota.
"Recognized for his extraordinary service and relentless passion as an emeritus attorney, David E. Morrill, was presented the Distinguished Service Award, for dedicating his retirement years to the service of others, ensuring that the civil legal needs of the disadvantaged and low-income residents of Sarasota were met with zealous advocacy and legal services of the highest caliber," a release states.
Over the past 13 years, the bar association said Morrill has provided nearly 10,000 pro bono hours under the auspices of Legal Aid of Manasota Inc.
Bailey received the C.L. McKaig Award for "her extraordinary service to the Sarasota County Bar Association through her efforts promoting, improving, and ensuring a high level of professionalism in all aspects of the legal practice." The bar association said Bailey's leadership, knowledge, and dedication have been instrumental in reinstating the Local Professionalism Panel and raising the level of professionalism throughout the 12th Judicial Circuit.
