Family, friends gather to remember boy killed Saturday in Rubonia
RUBONIA -- A vigil was held Tuesday night to remember a young boy hit and killed by a car over the 4th of July weekend.
The 9-year-old was riding his bike in Rubonia when he died. Around 300 friends, family and strangers paid tribute to Ginbilo Jordan Yarn, known as "Nobi."
Candles burned bright as nearly 300 members of the Rubonia community and throughout Manatee County came together to remember the 9-year-old.
On the 4th of July his life came to a tragic end when he was hit by a car on the corner of 72nd street court east and 14th avenue east.
"Nobi's" mother Michelle Jordan stayed strong surrounded by a sea of supporters.
“I didn’t know that he touched the community.”
Nobi’s big sister Dyaisha Jordan cried as she looked at her brothers memorial. Her brother was her world, but she didn’t know he meant so much to so many.
“We always thought that Nobie was just going on his bicycle riding but actually he was around touching lives that we never knew of. And its shocking to me.”
Nobi's teacher Sharon Eure says he had a kind heart and loved helping other kids.
“If they needed help getting off the bus or on the bus or anything els he was always very helpful.”
His friends like Jeremyah Martinez loved him for it.
“He would make friends with everybody.”
Charges are pending against the driver. Witnesses say the drive hit Nobi and then drove off, later returning to the scene. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
