2 drivers seriously injured in Longboat Key head-on crash, police say
Two drivers were seriously injured in a head-on crash Tuesday on Gulf of Mexico Drive in Longboat Key, police said.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 6600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in Manatee County, according to the Sarasota Police Department.
Both drivers were taken to HCA Florida Blake Hospital with serious injuries and were the only people inside the vehicles, according to police.
The crash prompted an extended closure of Gulf of Mexico Drive as emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene, with the roadway reopening Tuesday night, police said.
No additional details about the identities of the drivers or what led to the collision were immediately available Wednesday morning.
The crash remains under investigation by the Longboat Key Police Department with assistance from Sarasota police’s Traffic Unit.
